How to overcome your ambivalence
If you genuinely want to lose weight and genuinely don’t, for whatever reason, at some point this conflict will surface. Usually as I’ve said, it comes to light after you start to diet, a few weeks in (or days if the diet is too extreme). It starts to feel like too much and you fall back off the wagon, and back to how you normally eat.
This works the other way around as well. If you are truly ambivalent about weight loss, before long you’ll be unhappy with this and will find yourself thinking again about your next diet. Real ambivalence about anything results in dithering or prevarication – a repetitive cycle of half-doing then undoing the same thing. This can of course apply to other areas of your life too.
